Meet the Muscians

Trudi Conrad

The Palm Court Orchestra welcomes TRUDI PRELYPCHAN to the concert master’s chair in this her 15th season with the orchestra.

Trudi first fell in love with the violin in grade 4 Strings Class at Sir James Douglas Elementary, Victoria B.C. She has long championed the importance of music in education, proud to be part of a 91-year legacy of strings/orchestra in Victoria schools.

Trudi’s studies have taken her around the world: from the Victoria School of Music, to the Quebec Conservatory, Ecole Normale Paris, and the Mozarteum, Salzburg. One career highlight was performing with orchestra at Royal Albert Hall in London, England.

Classical music lovers may recognize Trudi Prelypchan as a member of the Victoria Symphony Orchestra, or for her performances with Eine Kleine Summer Festival, the Galiano Ensemble and Island Chamber Players.

When asked why she chooses to perform with Vancouver Island’s Palm Court Orchestra, Trudi responds: “For the joy of this particular music; music that sends our audiences home singing these popular melodies. And, because of Charles. I respect him very much, and admire his commitment to the PCO.”

Trudi’s favourite Palm Court memory is of performing Teddy Bear’s Picnic on a stage filled with teddy bears.

Music quote, inspired by her Hungarian violin teacher at the Mozarteum:
You don’t make music—music makes you!
